2025-26 Season Director Search

CTH is currently soliciting directors for the 2025-26 Season. This includes Radio Show and Black Box applications. We will review them all at once to see how they might fit together in our season. Below is a synopsis of what a full season would look like for us. See instructions at the end for submitting an application.

Mainstage Productions

These comprise most of our offerings and are selected to be compatible with our primary venue, a 400-seat auditorium with good technical features but limited wing space. Typically, this portion of our season is comprised of a Musical performed in November with 12-14 weeks allowed for rehearsal time, a play in February with about 10-12 weeks for rehearsal, our School Show which is a youth production of about one hour in length performed in March for local schools which must meet some curriculum criteria to garner district support, and a spring musical. We also offer the opportunity of, at least, one additional production which may be either a play or musical based on director interest and facility availability. All proposals will need to demonstrate, at least, a break even budget.

Also, please note that folks that have not directed yet for CTH, need to AD or Stage Manage a Mainstage production or direct a Black Box for us, before they can direct a Mainstage show.

Black Box Series

These are productions intended to be offered when our main facility is typically dark and may be performed either in our Green Room, an offsite location, or possibly on our main stage with a modified seating arrangement. These are presented with minimal set, costuming and budget, an expected audience size of 25-60 and modest admission cost. This series is intended to allow the opportunity to present works of high artistic or entertainment value, but which might have limited audience appeal.

WCTH Radio Series

Additional offerings of classic radio shows are presented about two weeks prior to our Mainstage productions at no charge.

Since this year we will celebrate our 40th Anniversary Season, we would like to encourage consideration of classic titles, perhaps from CTH history. Some examples might be: The Lion in Winter (1st CTH production 1985-86), Cinderella, Wizard of Oz, Oliver!, Mary Poppins, The Little Mermaid, HONK!, Anne of Green Gables, Oklahoma!, White Christmas, It’s a Wonderful Life, Kiss Me Kate, Our Town, The Miracle Worker, Arsenic and Old Lace, The Odd Couple, and The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.

Attached above is an application form that needs to be thoroughly completed and returned with your theatrical resume. Our internal deadline is December 15, 2024. The Directors Search will review applications and hold interviews in between late January and early March. A recommendation will be made to the Board of Directors at the April 2025 Board of Directors Meeting.

Thank you,

Gil Bazil

BE A PART OF RADIO HISTORY WITH WCTH RADIO HOUR AT CTH

Are you ready to step into the world of classic radio and bring iconic characters to life?  Community Theatre of Howell is thrilled to announce auditions on Monday, March 18 for the upcoming WCTH Radio Hour. Join us as we recreate the magic of live radio and celebrate the art of storytelling through sound.

Voice actors and Foley artists are needed. WCTH Radio Shows offer a low time commitment as rehearsals are only once per week. There is no line memorization, the performance is done with scripts in hand. No prior experience in radio theatre is necessary – we welcome performers ages 13 and older for roles in these exciting radio drama reenactments.

We will be featuring two captivating radio stories that will be performed on Sunday, April 28: Big Town – “Pittsburgh Lil” and Our Miss Brooks – “Board of Education Day”.

Big Town – “Pittsburgh Lil”:  In the bustling city of Big Town, the Illustrated Press newspaper reigns supreme. The newspaper is driven by a merciless managing editor and his fearless society reporter, Lorelei. When Lorelei refuses to write a malicious expose about a socialite’s scandalous past, the editor takes the article into his own hands with murderous consequences.

Our Miss Brooks – “Board of Education Day”: It’s Board of Education day at Madison High School and Principal Conklin has tasked Miss Brooks with arranging an exciting ceremony for the Superintendent. A series of amusing mix-ups involving a prankster, an athletic dimwit and a stuffy Principal culminates with explosive ceremonial results!

Auditions will be held at 1400 W. Grand River Avenue in Howell on Monday, March 18, 2024, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. The performance will take place on Sunday, April 28, 2024 at 2:00 pm. There may be one off-site performance on Sunday, May 5, 2024. The description of characters will be shared at the beginning of the audition process. Please bring a list of all conflict dates between March 19 and April 28 to your audition. The first rehearsal is scheduled for Thursday March 21, 2024 at 6:30pm.

Audition for "Once Upon a Mattress" February 16-18

Many moons ago in a far-off place, Queen Aggravain decreed no couples could marry until her son, Prince Dauntless, found a bride. Princesses came from far and wide to win the hand of the prince, but none could pass the impossible tests given to them by the Queen. That is, until the “shy” swamp princess, Winnifred the Woebegone, showed up. Would she be able to pass the Sensitivity Test, marry her prince and help Lady Larkin and Sir Harry to the altar? Carried on a wave of wonderful songs, by turns hilarious and raucous, romantic and melodic, this rollicking spin on the classic tale The Princess and the Pea provides some side-splitting shenanigans. For after all, a princess is a delicate thing.

EXTENDED DEADLINE - LOOKING FOR DIRECTORS FOR OUR 2024-25 SEASON

DEADLINE EXTENDED TO FEBUARY 1

CTH is currently soliciting directors for the 2024-25 Season. This includes Radio Show and Black Box applications. We will review them all at once to see how they might fit together in our seasons.

All proposals will need to show, at least, a breakeven budget.

Additional offerings of classic radio shows presented about two weeks prior to our Mainstage productions at no charge.

In past years, we had presented a small list of titles for consideration by potential directors to choose from, but we want our directors to be passionate about their project. So instead, we are now open to all suggestions.  Please note that if we have not reviewed the script you propose in the past, we will ask the Director Search Committee to do a formal review to get additional perspective on how it could fit into our season and our organization.

Attached is an application form that needs to be thoroughly completed and returned with your theatrical resume.  Our internal deadline is January 15, 2024. The Directors Search will review applications and hold interviews in between late January and early March. A recommendation will be made to the Board of Directors at the April 2024 Board of Directors Meeting.
